Awe-inspiring granite peaks and dense rainforest
From a great distance, the irregular ridge of the Kinabalu mountain range is recognizable. Awe-inspiring granite peaks point to the sky, in the course of the morning they become shrouded in mists. The heavy heat of the coast is far behind you as you arrive at the entrance to Kinabalu National Park (1,585m). You are surrounded by dense rainforest, where gibbons, scale animals, flying squirrels and red langoeren live. The zeldame mistpanter is also found here. An extensive network of walking routes offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the exceptionally rich biodiversity. Nowhere else in Borneo do you find so many animal and plant species together!
Mount Kinabalu
You don't need to have any technical climbing experience to conquer Mount Kinabalu, but excellent physical condition and stamina are required. On the first day of the climb you will cross various vegetation zones with tree ferns, many species of palms and orchids, carnivorous beakers and rhodondendrons. In the dead of night, the second stage starts at Low's Peak (4,095m). The collar of your warm jacket up, the flashlight focused on the pad. Gradually, the subalpine vegetation becomes thinner, lower, and disappears almost entirely. The air is cold and thin. Via granite plateaus and slopes you reach the top, just before the sun rises.
