SWIMMING ELEPHANTS AND PRISTINE ISLANDS
In the middle of the unblemished jungle of Gal Oya National Parkis a vast lake, Senanayake Samudra, a large water reservoir. In the reservoir which is one of the largest lakes in Sri Lanka, there are several small unspoiled islands. Gal Oya National Park is a true paradise for bird lovers. Around the lake there are many tropical waterfowl. The park you can explore by jeep, also it is possible to make a beautiful boat safari along the islands in the reservoir. Who knows, you might encounter a group of elephants along the shores of the lake or you'll see elephants swimming from island to island in search of food. Near the national park live the vedda's,an indigenous tribe in Sri Lanka. Take an inspiring walk with these locals and learn about the traditions of today, but also from the past. Gal Oya is not yet busy visited by tourists, this makes a visit to the national park extra special and it seems as if you share the jungle with only animals.
