Lively evening markets
Street food plays a central role in daily life in Taiwan. Scattered around the island are vibrant night markets where locals gather to enjoy a wide variety of dishes. In Taipei, the famous Shilin Night Market is a popular destination, as is the MiaoKou Night Market in Keelung. The Fengjia Night Market in Taichung is known as one of the largest night markets in the country. In Tainan, often considered the culinary capital of Taiwan, markets such as the Garden Night Market are popular for traditional specialties. Also in Kaohsiung, the Liuhe Night Market attracts many visitors with fresh seafood and local snacks.
Beef Noodle Soup and Stinky Tofu
Popular street food dishes include beef noodle soup, oyster omelet, stinky tofu, pepper buns, fried chicken, scallion pancakes and, of course, bubble tea, which originated in Taiwan. The combination of authentic flavors, fresh ingredients and a cozy atmosphere makes Taiwanese street food culture one of the highlights of a trip through the country.
