One of the oldest rainforests in the world
In southern Thailand, sandwiched between Phuket, Krabi and Khao Lak, lies Khao Sok National Park. This more than 160 million-year-old area consists of jungle, limestone cliffs, hidden caves and waterfalls and is home to a wealth of flora and fauna. From December to April is the dry season, ideal for hiking because the trails are then easily passable. During the monsoon, the hikes are definitely more challenging, but the waterfalls are then at their most beautiful.
The enchantingly beautiful Cheow Lan Lake
The tops of trees protruding above the surface of the beautiful emerald-colored Cheow Lan Lake are the last reminder of the valley it once was, before it filled up with water using artificial dams. Precisely because of those bare tree trunks, the steep cliffs and the green surroundings, this is an enchantingly beautiful environment. The freshwater lake is best explored by longboat. You will pass Hin Sam Glur, three striking rock formations rising out of the water, and visit mysterious bat caves. Bring your flashlight to catch the animals in the light.
Afterwards, the boat will take you to your lake house: floating accommodation where you will spend the night in peace and where you can watch the lake awaken in the morning. Low-hanging mist quickly dissolves as soon as the sun comes through; there is a serene silence interrupted at most by the buzzing of insects. Then the striking "song" of groups of gibbons sounds, the sound carrying far across the water. A new day has dawned... Where the world can't find you...
