The region is dotted with ancient cities and picturesque villages. Located on the Vltava River, Český Krumlov is the pearl of the region and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason. The elegant main square and hilltop castle complex date back to the Middle Ages, while the beautifully restored architecture dates back to the Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic. A stroll through winding alleys and narrow cobbled streets, past coats of arms houses, charming outdoor cafes and local pubs serving the famous locally brewed beer takes the traveler back in time.
Attractive places such as Tabor and Trebon are also praised for their historic centers full of monumental buildings. Numerous water sports are possible on the beautifully situated Lake Lipno and you can sunbathe on one of the many sandy beaches. An absolute must is the castle of Hluboka nad Vltavou, a romantic castle in neo-gothic style. The castle has no fewer than 144 halls, where you will find 17th-century tapestries, paintings, gobelins, Venetian mirrors and armor.
