Many know the southern Lyon of the car junction on the Autoroute du Soleil. However, this city has so much more to offer and shows you a hip mix of old and modern.
Lyon is the capital of gastronomy and eating out is always a feast here. The friendly and authentic bouchons; typical local bistros, are a great experience. Enjoy the high quality of the many local products such as the famous wines of Beaujolais,the pink tarte aux chocolates, the tasty saucisson brioché and the delicious rosette of Lyon. These mouth-watering products and the famous star-studded L'Auberge de Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or, by the late top chef Paul Bocuse (one of the greatest French chefs and founder of modern gastronomy) are inextricably linked to the city.
The old quarter in Lyon; Vieux-Lyon is a Unesco-protected district with beautiful medieval streets, buildings and churches from the Renaissance era. Discover the trabouleshere, hidden passages that traverse entire residential blocks and courtyards. Admire the beautiful spiral staircases, old wells and balconies as you know it from Romeo and Juliette.
In the Croix-Rousse district you will find many hip bars and studios with the connection of the silk industry that has made Lyon rich in the past. Especially admire the beautiful murals.
La Presqu'île is the city centre on a peninsula between the Saône and the Rhône and is in many ways reminiscent of Paris with its classic squares, fountains and 19th-century buildings. The impressive Musée des Beaux-Arts even has the nickname 'Petit Louvre'.
Once an industrial port site, the La Confluence district was an industrial port site, but in the late 1990s a huge urban renewal project was launched in which several major international architects participated. In the former waterfront sheds there are now trendy restaurants, terraces, clubs, art studios and shops, often just between the old taps. Here you will also find the Musée des Confluences with its striking and state-of-the-art architecture.
