A spectacular landscape
Tupiza is located in the far south of Bolivia at an altitude of 3160 meters in the valley of the Río Tupiza. The landscape is spectacular with style jut-raising red mountains that are particularly shaped by erosion and are bisected by (mostly dry) ravines that are overgrown with cacti. This typical Western landscape was, according to legend, the place where the infamous duo Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid found their end. Their bodies are buried in the desolate mining town of San Vicente, west of Tupiza. That is where they lie to this day, although their identity has never been 100% established! The area is ideal for exploring on horseback.
