Atmospheric town at foot of Tungurahua volcano
Baños de Agua Santa, called Baños for short, is a small town in central Ecuador. The town is located at the foot of the imposing Tungurahua volcano (in Quichua language: "little hell") on a plateau, surrounded by beautiful green mountains and waterfalls. The road from Baños to the jungle village of Puyo is a common route to the Amazon. The city is known as access to the Amazon. The name Baños de Agua Santa means Baths of the Holy Water, which refers to the volcanic hot springs that spring up around Baños. The baños area offers a range of possibilities, such as hot water pools, horse riding, rafting, jungle tours and mountain biking. You can cycle downstream along the Pastaza River towards Puyo to see the Waterfall El Pailón del Diablo. The local delicacy is milcocha, a kind of toffee.
