MOUNTAIN PEAKS IN THE CLOUDS
The exceptionally vast Denali National Park & Preserve has only one road: the Denali Park Road. From the entrance this road leads west, parallel to the Alaska Range. Majestic mountains rise from the tundra, snowy peaks are lost in the clouds. The mountain range is dominated by Mt Denali, the highest peak in North America. As a visitor you are not in this grand landscape of tundra and taiga, valleys and creeks, rock slopes and glaciers.
THE DENALI SLAM
The park invites you to all kinds of activities, such as trekking, camping, rafting and fishing. During the winter months you can also go out on cross-country skis, by snowmobile or dog sled. Keep your eyes on alert for all the wildlife that occurs here, including the black bear and lynx. If you're lucky, you'll see the park's five largest animals, the Denali Slam: moose, caribou, wolf, Dall sheep, and grizzly bear. Even if you see the park exclusively from the Denali Park Road, you have a real chance to see a grizzly bear!
KANTISHNA
After 148 kilometres, Denali Park Road ends in the former gold diggers town of Kantishna. It is the only permanent structure in the entire park, with in close proximity some beautiful lodges. You will spend the night here in the heart of the park, surrounded by unspoilt nature, as far as the eye can see.
