The forest never sleeps
Loud, shrill tones sound through the forest, the remaining sounds are drowned out by the passionate crescendo. It is the territorial call of gibbons, an answer comes from miles away. A new day dawns in the tropical forest of Cuc Phuong National Park.
Bring your binoculars on the morning walk. Gibbons, other primates and many birds often sit high in the trees. The largest trees are no less than 70 meters high. Real wild giants of age, overgrown with lianas, orchids and epiphytes. Partridges shoot away to a sheltered place on the ground, leaves rustling.
In a kayak on Lake Yen Quang, it's curiously quiet in the afternoon. Fishermen cast nets, a bird of prey circles high in the air. As the sun almost disappears, haze descends over the wooded slopes that line the vast lake. Swarms of bats fly out of the forest.
In the evening, the forest of Cuc Phuong uses a new song. Under the guidance of a ranger, you will look for nocturnal animals. Eyes reflect in the light beam of your flashlight: the owl and the lori look back, a civetkat flees to a safe distance. Or was it a leopard?
