San Sebastian, pearl of the north
Located on the Bay of Biscay, San Sebastian, or Donostia as it is known in Euskadi, offers one of the best beaches in Europe with its Playa de la Cocha. The city's elegant architecture, spacious squares and abundant green parks have earned the nickname "Pearl of NorthernSpain". The unique and rich Basque culture is most pronounced in the exquisite cuisine. Treat yourself to a large portion of pintxos, heavenly pieces of various dishes ranging from Spanish omelette to scampi, ham, peppers and risotto cubes, traditional, but not always, served on a piece of baguette. Or how about a dish with the freshest seafood or "Alubias de Tolosa", a savory, richly stuffed bean broth?
Bilbao, impressive works of art in the architectural Guggenheim
Refined, cosmopolitan and vibrant, Bilbao is the modern face of the Basques. Surrounded by the green hills of Pais Vasco, Bilbao has been transformed into an important European art centre. In addition to the charming streets in the old town, the Casco Viejo, filled with lively bars and Gothic structures, the glittering shape of the Guggenheim museum is the city's iconic eye-catcher. For lovers of modern art and architecture, this museum is highly recommended.
