Lake Atitlán
Lake Atitlán is located at an altitude of 1500 meters and is a crater lake. It is surrounded by twelve volcanoes named after the twelve apostles. A British writer described it as 'the most beautiful lake in the world'! And understandably, the calm and clear blue water that reflects the volcanoes are overwhelming. On the shores of the lake are some authentic villages of different Mayan ethnicities such as the Quiché, Cakchiquel and Tzutuhil. These are distinguished by the use of colours and various patterns in their typical clothing. On the huipiles, a kind of blouse, of the women you can clearly see which group they belong to and even from which village they come. Like the villages of San Juan La Laguna and San Pedro La Laguna with a nice little church. And Santiago Atitlán which is one of the Tzutuhil villages.
