Staying overnight at the foot of Kilimanjaro
Shu'mata Camp is located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, deep in traditional Masai country, in an area known as Private Amboseli. "Shu'mata" means something like "above the clouds" or "heaven." It is a small but impressive permanent camp on a hill with beautiful views in all directions.
Five East African tents in Hemingway style
The camp consists of five large Hemingway-style East African tents. The spacious comfortable safari tents have en suite bathrooms with flush toilet and open-air shower with running water. Each tent has a private veranda with beautiful views. Out here you will enjoy the sounds of the surrounding savannah, of crickets, zebras, lions, herds of elephants, elands, zebras, wildebeests, antelopes and Thompsongazelles.
In addition to safaris to nearby Amboseli N.P., you can go on a (multi-day) expedition from the camp to the Masai steppe to learn about the Masai culture and lifestyle.
And you can hike to the Shira Plateau, an ascent of Kilimajaro that is suitable for almost everyone. You will enjoy sweeping landscapes as you leisurely hike up to enjoy a well-deserved picnic at the top of Africa!
