Dear Tryntsje,
Our trip to Laos and Cambodia was excellent for us. The program is well put together with many different activities and also plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation. The hotels were excellent, with Hotel Anjali in Siem Reap especially standing out because of a great restaurant at the hotel. But also Villa Maly in Luang Prabang was excellent with the great advantage of its convenient location to the city center.
The activities were often surprising and well organized. While the highlight for us was the multi-day visit to the Angkort Temples, there were many other highlights: the boat trip in Luang Prabang, the visit to the villages in the mountains of northern Laos and the shocking visits to the Killing Fields and Genocide Prison.
The guides were very pleasant and knowledgeable. Saeng in Laos was very flexible and left a lot of room for us to arrange the program ourselves, Sophak in Cambodia was very knowledgeable and for example also arranged an extra visit to other temples in Angkor at our request. The English of all the guides was easy to follow; Saeng's was even excellent.
Finally, when searching for a tour operator beforehand, we found that many tour operators do not include Laos (anymore), sometimes arguing that quality cannot be guaranteed there. This is incomprehensible to us now: Laos is a very relaxed country with beautiful nature and a beautiful city (Luang Prabang) and the hotels were fine. I definitely recommend keeping Laos in your program, perhaps even putting it more in the foreground.
With best regards,
Dick and Carin
