In February and March 2024, Edwin and Patricia took a 31-day self-drive through diverse New Zealand that included visits to Mount Cook, Abel Tasma, Tongariro and Paparoa National Park, interspersed with cities such as Christchurch, Queenstown and Wellington. An adventure full of nature and culture. Where the world can't find you...

Dear Tryntsje and Ingrid,

We very much enjoyed our trip to New Zealand and can only say that the organization around the trip was excellent and the contacts were very pleasant. That started with the preparation where the trip was put together in close consultation with Tryntsje and Ingrid based on our interests. The excursions booked, largely on your recommendations, showed a lot of the nature of this beautiful country. The overnight spots were very diverse and mostly strategically located.

New Zealand, Mount Cook

After a long and tiring journey, we arrived at the airport in Christchurch. It is then very nice that someone is already waiting for you at the gate to take you to your first overnight address. After all, you don't feel like having to make a lot of arrangements yourself at that time. The information package then provided us with excellent tips and information throughout the trip.

Pancake RocksEverything we had discussed and booked in advance was perfectly correct. We were expected everywhere at the right times and places. We never had to worry about whether or not something was booked. From Untamed Travelling it was excellent and well taken care of. The excursions were great fun to do and versatile so you could see many different facets of the country. The guidebook we had received at the start provided excellent information on excursion and sleeping arrangements so that we could prepare well for our day and trip each day (e.g. travel time from A to B, on-site amenities, what to bring on an excursion, etc.) The places to stay overnight were in almost all cases very well located so that it was often a short walk to the city center and/or the sights.

Our highlights were Mount Cook and surroundings, Clay Cliffs, Catlins, Doubtful Sound, Pancake Rocks, Wanaka and surroundings, Gletsers at Franz Josef, Kayaking in Abel Tasman, Tongariri crossing, Hobbiton, Wellington, sea fishing and Waiotapu (volcanic park). In addition, in various locations there are really great places to discover with beautiful nature, waterfalls, views, special stones, beaches etc. a good preparation at home and reading other experiences helps tremendously to spend the time in the best possible way.

New Zealand,Tongariro NP We enjoyed our stay in Rotorua (Doolan's Country retreat). Although the lodging was a little harder to find at first (Navigation was the saving grace) we were received very hospitably, delicious breakfast and nice conversations with the hostess. Incredibly large garden and common areas (very nice for interaction with other guests, but you can also retreat easily). A super breakfast was prepared for you.

Getting some rest after an exhausting trip before flying home is very nice. Since we quite like activities, we thought three days in Coromandel and three days in Russel was a bit too long. Russel was also a very long drive from Coromandel. We could have/would have quite skipped that and split these days at some other destinations. Either destination would have sufficed for us.

Our tip: Buy a cooler with cooling elements for the first few days. You can go shopping in many places, and so you are provided with cold drinks/fresh toppings, butter, an evening meal to microwave even during hot days (and it can get very hot in the car).

We have had, as I said, a great trip with many wonderful experiences that we could not have made without your good preparations. So for this once again thank you very much !!!

Greetings from Edwin and Patricia
