Africa close by!
Senegal , a sun-drenched holiday destination on the African west coast, is still unknown to many (Dutch) tourists. It is an ideal destination for a short, varied trip to Africa. On the coast lies the African Riviera, including fashionable seaside resorts and picturesque fishing villages on elongated, quiet beaches. Senegal is home to world-class national parks. Take Djoudj - one of the three most important bird sanctuaries on earth - or Niokolo-Koba with its savannas unique to West African standards and populated by nearly a hundred species of mammals including lions, leopards and elephants. Don't forget the Bassari , a colorful tribe that still lives as it did centuries ago, the former slave island of Ile de Gorée , a World Heritage Site, and the colonial Saint-Louis with its regattas and jazz festival that became the largest in Africa. Add to this the bustling capital Dakar with markets, museums and music bars, an ever-friendly population and the omnipresent 'teranga' – African hospitality – and we only have one question: what are you waiting for?
