Vast, pristine and wild-rich
In the far north of Mozambique, bordering Tanzania and the size of Denmark, lies the untouched Niassa Game Reserve. This new destination has an exceptional diversity of landscapes; half is covered with Miombo forest, the other half consists of savannah, seasonal wetlands and river forest along the Rovuma and Lugenda Rivers. Typical of Niassa are the unique 'inselbergs', steep isolated hills of granite of which you have breathtaking views. Mecula Mountain - with its botanical curiosities - lies in the heart of the Niassa National Reserve, the highest rock formation at 1,441 meters above sea level.
Mozambique's largest concentration of wild animals
In this remote environment live lion, leopard, buffalo, huge populations of elephants with tusks, various endemic and endangered species such as Boehm's zebra, saber antelope and African dog, and a huge variety of rare birds. The rivers are home to hippos, crocodiles and at least forty species of fish. Lake Niassa is filled with crystal clear fresh water, ideal for snorkelers and divers to admire the numerous different colorful cichlids.
The remote location of the reserve makes it a destination for the adventurous traveller. An exclusive safari experience in an area where the wildlife is still wild. The best travel time is the winter period which lasts from April to October.
