Rare desert elephants and Himbas
Kaokoland in Namibia is an area full of beautiful mountain landscapes where among other things the rare desert elephant, the black rhino and giraffes live. It is also the land of the Himbas,a semi-nomadic people that lives in scattered settlements throughout the region. They are proud, friendly people and the women are particularly handsome, with different hairstyles and traditional clothing. Central to Kaokoland is picturesque Hoarusib, a dry riverbed that traverses the himba's land.
Highlights Kaokoland
Definitely one of the highlights of this varied trek through Kaokoland are the Epupa Falls. For humans and animals a welcome change in this otherwise very dry landscape. The Epupa Falls are a series of rapids in the Kunene River that descends here 60 meters over a length of 1.5 kilometers. You will see a tangle of waterways, created by the abrasive effect of the Kunene River. Fascinating and impressively beautiful! The rich vegetation on the banks of the river, Baobab trees, wild fig trees and Makalani Palms provides some welcome shade. A perfect place to enjoy a sundowner.
