Untamed Travelling is Travelife Partner!

Responsible travel is a top priority at Untamed Travelling. We believe that travel can contribute to local communities, conservation of nature, protection of animals and preservation of traditions. As specialists in customized travel worldwide, we are actively committed to promoting responsible tourism so that future generations around the world can have unforgettable experiences. In addition, we want to strengthen the positive effects of tourism, such as employment, protection of natural areas and preservation of cultural heritage. In this way, we increase the sustainable impact of every trip and create experiences where travelers can discover the world in a respectful way.

Partner award

Travelife is a sustainability system that helps tour operators manage and improve social and environmental aspects to match sustainability criteria. To achieve this, tour operators can use a wide range of Travelife services, such as training, management support, planning and reporting. Since February 3, 2026, we have been proud holders of the Travelife Partner award, meeting more than 100 criteria in the areas of sustainability management, office processes, cooperation with suppliers and customer communication. At the same time, we continue to actively work on further improvements, with the ultimate goal of achieving Travelife Certified status.

Projects supported by us

From January 1, 2026, for every booking we will donate €10 to local projects that are close to our DNA. We collect this money in a project pot to show that travel can really make an impact, supporting the following projects:

  • Reist u met ons naar Suriname, dan wordt uit de opbrengst van uw reis een bedrag gedoneerd aan de JA Foundation. Deze stichting ondersteunt kansarme kinderen in Suriname via kleinschalige en persoonlijke projecten, waarbij alle gelden rechtstreeks bij de projecten terechtkomen waar ze voor bedoeld zijn.
  • The Natural Selection Foundation was founded out of dedication to conservation and the protection of Africa’s most important wildlife areas. They also support local communities in the villages surrounding Natural Selection’s camps with projects that improve their living conditions. Since 2016, 98 projects have been funded in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Madagascar, of which 64 focus on community development and 34 on wildlife protection.

  • Untamed has been working together with full satisfaction with African Bush Camps. They have established the ABC Foundation Foundation, which includes several projects, such as an anti-poaching training especially for female rangers and a training program for female guides.

Our initiatives

We believe that even small changes can have a big impact. This is why we send out our travel documents completely digitally and have not released new paper guides for several years. This way we avoid unnecessary cutting of forests and CO2 emissions, because no shipping is required. Our website acts as a shop window and offers a lot of current inspiration. In addition, we work completely paperless from home, which reduces CO2 and nitrogen emissions and does not unnecessarily burden the environment by maintaining, heating and cleaning an office space.

At our destinations, we work exclusively with agencies that practice responsible tourism. Together with local people, they are committed to initiatives aimed at environmental education and reducing environmental impacts. We select accommodations that provide training and employment opportunities, use solar energy and treat wastewater before it returns to the river. Excursions are carefully planned with respect for people and animals; contact with local people is always by mutual agreement, and wild animals are left alone as much as possible and observed from a distance in their natural habitat. In addition, we prefer airlines with a modern fleet and an eye for the environment.

What you can do yourself

To increase the positive impact of travel on nature, culture and people and reduce the social, cultural, economic and environmental impact of our activities, you as a traveler can contribute a lot. Neutralize your footprint and offset the CO2 emissions of your trip, choose the most environmentally friendly transportation locally, and stay at climate-neutral accommodations that invest locally. Use local guides, leave protected flora and fauna alone, avoid disposable plastic, use water sparingly and separate your waste. Support local initiatives responsibly and buy sustainable souvenirs. Visit catering establishments that use organic, seasonal local produce and do not eat endangered species. Prevent animal suffering, be respectful to animals and people and do not be photographed with (sedated) predators. Help fight child sex tourism by being alert and reporting suspicions. And above all: tip!

Travelife certified accommodations

The Travelife sustainability system provides accommodations with knowledge and tools to make their operations more sustainable. Both within companies and with their suppliers. In addition to better environmental and social performance, sustainability also leads to cost reductions, among other things, while the reward in the form of a Travelife Award strengthens one’s own competitive position. Juul de Wette

In January 2025, I started as a fourth-year college communications student at Untamed Travelling, with one last assignment: my graduation research. I now have my degree in the pocket and am a full-time part of the marketing team.

Travel and communications were instilled in me from an early age. With a father who travels all over the world for his own communications agency and a mother who is a graphic designer, it was no surprise that I went in this direction. At an early age I became interested in other cultures. I traveled to the United States, Japan, Indonesia, the Emirates and various European destinations, among others. During my studies, I was one of the lucky ones to go on a study trip to Singapore. I also lived in Barcelona, where I took the minor in Digital Marketing. Through my time in Barcelona and a family home in Alicante, Spain now totally feels like my second home.
